Clune Woods Stone Circle

We went to Clune Woods back in April, lovely walk around the forest in the mud and the local school children have added a story trail here which is nice to read. The woods are also home to a stone circle, which as always was the main focus of my visit :)

St Andrews Castle.

Visited mid January 2016. Interesting thing here is that they tunnelled underground to meet an enemy tunnelling in, and you can go in to the tunnels still if you don't mind crouching and dampness. I'd go again in summer it was too wet in January, but it might always be like that I don't know!

Dunino Den.

Tucked away behind a church in Fife is this odd little place that no one really knows much about. lots of people use it for various things as there are lots of little offering type things lying or hanging around and candles that have been used. There are stairs carved into the rock, an old well, and what is thought to be a carved footprint beside the well. There are a few carvings in the wall but some of those may be recent. I visited here mid January 2016

This is the path that runs alongside the church. You can park in the church carpark at the top.

At the top of the den there is the sacred well, the stairs going down and the carved footprint.

Pictures of the Den and the various offerings/tributes people have left around.

And finally, the carvings.

the face is my favourite. Very detailed.

Hello! So I've had a blog over on tumblr for about a year but it was problematic whenever I tried to upload pics so I've decided to give here a go.

Phenomenal Fridays are all about me trying to make the best of my day off, I've loved visiting Stone circles in particular as well as castles and ruins, graveyards and Abbeys. I'll gradually be adding new posts of places I go and also I will add some of the old places I've been too.

Welcome to Phenomenal Fridays!
